Yes, if you have a merge feature available, that is an option, as well. :)

But, locked threads are fairly rare on my communities, as well.

		<description>I agree. Very often you see topics locked because they supposedly break the community guidelines. Yet by locking the topic, the content remains!

In the example you mention, I would rather merge the topic with the existing one and notify the authors of the affected posts by PM.

The only time I ever lock a thread is when I make an announcement and no further discussion is necessary.
