This is such a great thing you do Pat. On my website I've been having a "fan of the month" for over a year now, but at the end of this year I will definitely be doing the community awards in the forum, similar to the way you do it! :D

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the comment.

At KarateForums.com, we do Member of the Month. At phpBBHacks.com, we do Featured phpBB and Featured Author, both of which are monthly.

At KarateForums.com, it's picked by staff. I start a thread around the 20th of the month and ask for nominations. If we get more than 1 qualified nomination, I start a poll thread on or around the 26th (votes anonymous). That is closed around the 1st and the winner is announced via public announcement. I also send a private message to the person.

If no one is nominated, I pick the winner. If there is a tie in voting, I cast the deciding vote. Otherwise, I don't vote.

At phpBBHacks.com, I select both categories after research. They are notified via e-mail and I post a public announcement. We also have this page for the awards:

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/features/author.php
http://www.phpbbhacks.com/features/phpbb.php

I hope that this helps. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Patrick

Great post Patrick. I manage a community of legal professionals and my main goal this year is to get them talking more. One of the things we are going to experiment with is doing a "legal department of the month" or "law firm of the month" spotlight with an annual round up and award at the end of the year. The choice of who makes the list is arbitrary and up to the community management team. Do you have any suggestions for successful implementation of such a program? Does anyone else have experience with programs like that?
